Since inception, our Real Estate Debt division has funded and/or advised on $2.5B+ of commercial deals. We provide financing solutions for land, subdivisions, multi-family residential, retail, industrial, office, hospitality, mixed-use properties, as well as specialized options such as equity and structured financing.

POSITION         Director, Loan Operations

LOCATION       Edmonton, Alberta

YOUR OPPORTUNITY  

Reporting to the Vice President, Investment Management, the Director, Loan Operations will lead and evolve the Loan Operations function, actively managing the Loan Operations function – balancing hands-on execution in complex situations with the ongoing development of a scalable, high-performing servicing platform, operational excellence, and team leadership. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and scale a high-performing servicing platform, support the continued growth of the business, and build strong relationships with national lending partners. This role is accountable for evolving Loan Operations from a high-touch servicing function into a scalable, system-driven platform capable of supporting institutional growth. Ideal for a leader who is excited by both strategic growth and operational execution, this position offers significant opportunity to make an impact, expand scope, and grow with the organization.

This role is well suited to a high-performing finance professional seeking to transition from a traditional accounting or advisory path into an operational leadership role with meaningful ownership and impact.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 

Loan Operations & Servicing

  • ​​​Lead and continuously enhance a high-performing loan servicing function in support of the Real Estate Debt division
  • Own the performance, accuracy, and risk management of the Loan Administration function, including, but not limited to:
    • Ensure integrity, completeness, and audit-readiness of all loan data across systems for all loans within database records (principal balances, charges, property information, security values, loan to value, etc.).
    • Oversee and validate the execution of all loan transactions (advances, payouts, etc.), ensuring alignment with approvals, controls, and investor requirements once approved by the relevant functions.
    • Facilitating all post-closing activities including but not limited to discharge, renewal, account administration and payment processing.
    • Preparation and distribution of internal and external statements for management, borrowers and solicitors, including (but not limited to): discharge, information and arrears statements.
    • Working jointly with the Finance team, assist in ensuring that accounting journal entries are accurately prepared and the loan portfolio is accurately maintained and accounted for.
  • Resolve basic or moderate default events (e.g. bounced payments) through effective communication. Liaise with investors and borrowers to communicate and resolve performance issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective compliance, risk management and risk controls in the servicing of the portfolio by exercising consistent, objective, and sound decisions in accordance with KVC policy and procedures.
  • Act as the senior operational point of contact for institutional investors, directly managing complex servicing issues, reporting requirements, and relationship-level problem solving and ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements with the utmost accuracy.
  • Partner directly with Capital Markets to structure, operationalize, and support institutional relationships, including negotiation and implementation of Participation, Servicing, and Interlender Agreements, and drafting processes or designing reporting processes specifically for these investors.
  • Plan, monitor, and analyze the Loan Administration function’s KPI’s, and select broader KPIs for the Real Estate Debt division, for the department performance to ensure the reaching of KVC’s goals.
  • While the role is primarily focused on leadership and systemization, the Director is expected to step in directly on complex transactions, investor matters, and exception-based problem solving.

Leadership

  • Own the performance, resourcing, and evolution of the Loan Operations function, ensuring alignment with firm-wide strategy and growth objectives.
  • Supervision of the Loan Administration team, including assignment of work, ongoing training and development, performance management, as well as recruitment and onboarding of new hires.
  • Drive team engagement and ensure KVC’s culture and values are embedded with the Loan Administration team.
  • Build and develop a high-caliber team capable of operating with increasing autonomy and scale.

Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives

  • Own the design and implementation of systems, automation, and data architecture supporting loan servicing (including CRM and workflow tools), with a focus on scalability and efficiency.
  • Participate in or lead various projects in support of business plans and/or best practice plan initiatives.
  • Partner with Operational Excellence and other relevant teams to implement systems, processes, and data integrity across loan servicing activities.
  • Implement strategic directives and performance metrics as directed.

 

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS   

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, real estate, economics, business, or a related field is required.
  • Advanced certification such as CPA or CFA is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progress finance experience, including senior leadership roles.
  • Strong preference for candidates with Big 4 or equivalent training, with demonstrated progression in high-performance environments.
  • Experience in Real Estate or Investment industry preferred, but not required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel is required.
  • Proven leadership ability, including experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • ​​​Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in complex situations
  • Familiarity with financial software, loan administration system, and underwriting platforms such as TMO and Microsoft Dynamics are strong assets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy across documentation, correspondence, and all related loan materials.
