In support of International Women’s Day

This month we have come together to celebrate International Women’s Day to commemorate women’s achievements and increase visibility, to collectively #breakthebias.

International Women’s Day encourages us to “[i]magine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality”. – International Women’s Day 2022

In honour of International Women’s Day, our team at KV Capital is proud to share our support for WIN House—an incredible Edmonton-based organization providing a safe place and emergency services for women and children fleeing gender-based abuse.

About WIN House

WIN House has one purpose: to give victims the hope and help they need to overcome gender-based abuse.

‍WIN House exists to further non-violent relationships and environments for women with or without children. For over five decades, they have provided safe shelter for women and their kids fleeing domestic violence, and victims—or Champions, as WIN House aptly refers to them as—receive access to programs and services to help them on the next part of their journey.

“We have 70 beds, which are almost always full, in 3 shelters (2 short term stay, 1 long-term stay), a 24-hour crisis line for anyone to call in need of help, outreach staff, a nurse, meals, warm beds, essentials like toiletries, undergarments and comfortable items like pajamas, slippers and a variety of programs to help the Champions on their journeys to new beginnings. We create household packages for our Champions when they leave, full of every item needed for a fresh start—towels, bedding, shower curtains, pots, pans, can openers—items we all take for granted that they do not have as they’re starting from scratch.” - Melanie Harysh, Community Engagement & Special Events Coordinator

#Changethejourney

We have the power to be a part of forging a gender equal world, where women can live safely and free from discrimination, and that begins with simple initiatives such as accessing resources and initiating open conversations with family, friends, and colleagues. Taking collective action is one of the most impactful ways to make change.

KV Capital continues to be an ally and advocate for women, by providing resources such as flexible work hours, maternity leave top up, and equal employment opportunity. As an equal opportunity employer, we will not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, in any of its activities or operations. The opportunity to make a difference in the workplace, and create a safe, welcoming and equal environment is one of the foundational steps we have taken as a company to embrace equality and to #breakthebias.
