Director, Origination, Commercial Real Estate Finance

The successful candidate will lead the growth of KV Capital’s CREF business unit and presence in the commercial real estate market.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

The successful candidate will lead the growth of KV Capital’s CREF business unit and presence in the commercial real estate market. This will entail:

  • Developing and maintaining mutually beneficial funding relationships with real estate clients in the Calgary and western Canada markets;
  • Taking ownership in the origination and management of your own portfolio of clients;
  • Collaborating with the underwriting team to resolve issues and bring forward funding solutions to clients; and
  • Participating in the growth of the CREF team.

Success and compensation will be dictated by your ability to provide expert level service to our clients, consistently sourcing and closing transactions and leverage of your network and industry expertise to bring value to clients and build on KV Capital’s reputation as a trusted expert in the commercial real estate market.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In collaboration with the CREF and KV Capital leadership team, you will be responsible for:

  • Leveraging both your and KV Capital’s network of key contacts to source new commercial real estate finance opportunities;
  • Generating and maintaining strong relationships with existing and new client base to provide a pipeline of deal flow;
  • Demonstrating the ability to negotiate and develop needs-based solutions and presenting proposals to clients, effectively satisfying borrower needs within the objectives of KV Capital;
  • In conjunction with the underwriting team, preparing, negotiating and finalizing mandates, term sheets, underwriting models and CIMs;
  • Overseeing the progress of a loan through all stages from inception to funding to ensure credit quality and timelines are met and a deal is retained through ongoing communication with all parties involved;
  • Individually generating loan volume and revenue commensurate with your experience level and professional network; and
  • Promoting the KV Capital brand in the marketplace, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to achieve growth and position KV Capital as a preferred broker to both new and existing clients.

COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE FINANCE (“CREF”)

Launched in 2019, our commercial real estate finance division has advised on/structured +$5B commercial deals collectively and our team has +100 years of combined experience. Together, we source financing solutions for land, subdivision financing, multi-family, retail, industrial, office, hospitality, mixed-use properties, and specialty financing, such as equity and structured financing deals.

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in commercial mortgage lending with a commercial mortgage firm, a major Financial Institution or other commercial lending group.
  • A post-secondary education with a concentration in finance, economics, urban land development, accounting or business administration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to problem solve, negotiate and manage conflict.
  • Ability to originate transactions with a demonstrated track record in marketing and deal negotiations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the mortgage brokerage network, lending industry and emerging industry trends.
  • Existing network of industry contacts, including lenders and borrowers.
  • Proficient organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands, clients and deadlines.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, financial acumen and management capabilities.
  • Proficient with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
